2016 Padre Island Events


Check out the events you can’t miss in 2016, from Port Aransas and North Padre to South Padre Island. While there are many events going on weekly in each area, we wanted to highlight some of the more popular ones that you must attend.

Port Aransas

  • Whooping Crane Festival – February 25-28, 2016

This year will be the 20th anniversary of the Whooping Crane Festival. The Port Aransas CVB celebrates these majestic birds through this annual festival where the community comes together for a variety of birding and nature activities. Enjoy speakers, photography exhibits and workshops, a painting and wine class, birding and boat tours, seminars and so much more.

  • Texas Sand Fest – April 29 – May 1, 2016

Have a fun-filled weekend watching the pros sculpt amazing pieces of art out of sand to raise money to give back to the local community! This is the perfect event to bring the whole family to and enjoy live music and concerts, food, art, jewelry, crafts and of course the sand sculptures.

  • Old Town Festival and plyWooden Boat Festival – October 8 – 10, 2016

These three days are full of fun and activities the whole family will enjoy! Experience a parade, surfing contest, live music, golf tournament, rowboat races, food and so much more!

North Padre

  • Padre Island National Seashore Annual Kite Festival – February 20, 2016

Join us for a day full of kites! Relax and watch people of every age flying kites of all types, or participate in flying your own! You will surely see a kite you’ve never seen before! This is a great activity the whole family will love.

  • 3rd Annual International Food Festival – February 27, 2016

Take a tour around the world with delicious, authentic dishes from a variety of countries. Get admission and 10 coupons for food and drinks for just $10!

  • Rodeo Corpus Christi – April 14 – 17, 2016

The top cowboys and cowgirls hit Corpus Christi to compete in a variety of categories, including Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Calf Scramble, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding and more. Come out and watch an action-packed competition!

  • Buc Days – April 21 – May 1, 2016

Over 45,000 people come out to enjoy this Pirate-themed festival every year! Your family will enjoy carnival rides and games, feeding and petting animals, live music, an illuminated night parade and so much more. Don’t miss this event!

South Padre

  • South Padre Island Kite Fest – February 5 – 7, 2016

On Friday, enjoy watching skilled kite flyers showing off their skills with choreographed performances inside the SPI Convention Center. Saturday and Sunday will feature outdoor events including a display of colorful kites and additional choreographed routines.

  • Spring Break Activities – All March

Thousands of college students and young adults flock to South Padre Island to escape the books and hit the beach. There will be beach parties, concerts, DJs and more every day!

  • UME South Padre – March 16 – 19, 2016

UME is a favorite Spring Break party every year that hits South Padre Island. It’s four days and nights of dancing and partying to the latest dance music at Schlitterbahn Water Park. Some artists that will be there this year are DJ Snake, Kaskade, Porter Robinson, Galantis, Borgeous, Sam Feldt, Tigerlily and many more.

  • Beach N Bike Fest – April 15 – 17, 2016

Bikers from all around hit the road and gather at South Padre Island Convention Center for days full of live music, tons of food, a bike show and parade, kid’s day with games, contests and more.

  • Sand Castle Days – October, 2016

Over 30,000 people come out to watch sculptors create amazing figures out of sand on the beach in front of Clayton’s Beach Bar & Grill. There will also be great food, art booths, live music and family-fun activities. This is a must-attend event in South Padre.

  • Christmas Lighted Boat Parade – December 3, 2016

The parade starts at Sandpoint Marina in Port Isabel, travels across Laguna Madre, and ends at Louie’s Backyard in South Padre. There are viewing areas all along the shoreline where you can enjoy lighted boats and characters to bring in the Christmas season.

No matter which part of Padre Island you visit, there is so much to do and see, including these events and many more. You don’t want to miss out!
